The Month of March through June happens to be the warmest season of any year, and we call it summer. Summer season is hot, dry and warm. A country like India has a summer break in their University because of this warm period. This weather has its trouble and disease just like any other season of the year. The heat and dryness of this summer bring a lot of illness if you don’t put in the right measure to prevent them. Below is the common disease that tends to be rampant during this heat and dry season:

  1. Heat stroke – If you are exposed to a very severe heat for an extended period of time, it can leads to stroke. Also any form of abnormal rise in the body temperature or can result in a sign of nausea, headache, dizziness, fast heartbeat and severe fiver.
  2. Food poisoning – Bactria can withstand a hot temperature and they are the leading cause of food born disease during the summer. This creates, an environment for the bacteria growth that later leads to food contamination.
  3. Eye sore – The Conjunctivitis in the summer is as a result of infection caused by the bacteria. They are air born and can affect the whole family if one person is infected.
  4. Summer depression– The temperature changes at this period can leads to a depressive mood.
  5. Dehydration – This is the standard condition during the summer, the water that is loss due to severe environmental situation need to be compensated by the drinking water. This is because we tend to lose a lot of water by sweating. This will need to be replaced for the body to function well.
  6. Headache– The headache that occurs at this period is due high water loss via sweating. This is called dehydration and it most of the times leads to headache.
  7. Mumps is has been identified to be a severe viral disease that is more during the summer period. This can be easily transmitted if the person that is infected cough. It also affects the glad in front of ear that will leads to a painful sensation and dangerous fiver.
  8. Asthma can be caused by the pollen air that is around during this season
  9. Chicken pox- This is a disease that can affect the whole masses and it more during the summer period.
  10. Cough and cold- This can be caused by drinking of cold water during this heat period.
  11. Burning from the Sun – When you are too exposed to direct ultraviolent radiation it can cause a rash which is regarded as sun burn.
  12. Measles is caused by virus. This can cause running nose, fiver and cough.
  13. Flu is also one of the dangerous, diseases to avoid during this season.
  14. Water-borne diseases can cause diseases like typhoid, diarrhea, cholera and dysentery.
  15. Mosquito Bite Infections: The heat period also allow mosquito to breed well. This can lead to disease like fever and more.

How do we prevent This Disease in the Sumer Periods?

As the summer season draw near it required of you to keep yourself from the severe weather. Ensure you not exposed to excessive summer period.

  1. During summer you lose excessive water because of the hot and dry weather. You should be taking butter milk, lemon and coconut water for your body to be hydrated. You should take it along while traveling or when you are at home to stay hydrated during this heat period. You should make sure you take nothing less than 14 cups of liquid all through the day to stay hydrated. But alcohol is not recommended.
  2. You should put on light colored wears because any black clothes tend to absorb excessive heat during this season. Light cloths will not allow you sweat much. You should go for tight colored fabric (not black) made of cotton materials.
  3. If you want travel avoid doing heavy exercise or stay under shade.
  4. You should never attempt to leave your child in your car during this period o better still park under a tent.
  5. If you suffer from excessive ultraviolent ray (Sun) try and apply ice pack to the affected area on your hands or skin.
  6. Make sure you follow the general hygiene by washing your hand before handling any food. Your hand should be cleaned before cooking to avoid food born infections. Try and wash your hands anytime you use the toilet.
  7. Ensure your foods are well cooked or avoid eating outside or street foods. Vegetables and fruits like orange, pawpaw, cucumber, mangoes and watermelon should be eating more during this time.
  8. For heat not to be trapped indoor, ensure you close the window to your room in the afternoon.
  9. You should get many Oral Dehydration solutions. They have them in sachet. You can also prepare it at home. Add half teaspoon of water and enough sugar to one litter of boiled water. You can seep them all through the day to stay dehydrated.
  10. To avoid soreness makes sure you wash your hands well and lubricate your eyes by cleaning it to ease such soreness.
  11. Ensure you are vaccinated for Memp or measles. This is a good way to avoid such disease during this summer season. Vaccinate your baby also, to prevent the infection during the heat period.
  12. Clean your environment and apply a mosquito repellant.
  13. You should make sure you are indoor during the afternoon especially at 3pm when the sun is at its peak to avoid sun burn. This occurs when the sun ray is overhead or perpendicular.
  14. You should put on caps or sunglasses when traveling or do some activities under the sun. This will prevent this Ultraviolent from burning your face throughout the summer.

Our body tends to lose water during summer due to heat and the dry conditions. Therefore taking more liquid will make you hydrated all the day. But liquid with coffee and alcohol won’t keep you hydrated. You can also go for light food, and fruits like mango, water melon, oranges, and cucumbers replaced the lost fluid during this period.
